If you are looking for
vendors of DS420 spare parts go to my
web-links page.
This manual RTC9887FAE (Feb 1989) is one of the last Parts Catalogues
that was published for the DS420; it was issued on microfiche.
Note that 'February 1989' is approx. 4 years after the publication
of the last Parts Catalogue on paper, and 3 years before the
production of the model ended.
It explicitly states that it only serves the limousines built from July 1980
onwards (i.e. the cars that have the General Motors GM400 gearbox fitted).
For older cars it recommends
Parts Catalogue RTC9183B from 1978,
and for the earliest cars, from the 1971/1972 era, we have the
Parts Catalogue JC53.
For later cars we have (from 1985)
Parts Catalogue RTC9887CD.
We also have (from 1987)
Parts Catalogue RTC9887FAE
and the very last catalogue (from 2000):
Parts Catalogue RTC9887FAG.
The microfiche editions started in January 1979,
The first one had part number RTC9877FA.
These microfiches were updated a few times per year and labeled
RTC9877FA, RTC9877FB, RTC9877FC etc.
In 1981 the prefix of the label changed from RTC9877 to RTC9887,
again with a two letter suffix (three letter suffix
from July 1987) to distinguish the subsequent editions.
Most editions consist of two fiches,
where one fiche holds up to 504 page images.
The forelast one in my collection (not shown on this website)
has part number RTC9887FAF and dates from February 1990.
The last one, FAE9887FAG, was published in August 2000;
it is here on this website.

When the DS420 was introduced in 1968 it shared many parts with the other Jaguar models 420G and 420/Sovereign. But in the late eighties the evolution of the other Jaguar models had progressed and created quite a distance with the parts collection needed for the DS420. As a result, Jaguar struggled more and more with parts suppliers that phased out the low volume products that were still used in the DS420 and thus had to be replaced. Visible examples are e.g. the bumpers, the wheels and the steering column, but there are many more. This is of course reflected in the Parts Catalogues and therefore we have multiple of these late-eighties catalogues on this website, with the publication dates at a much shorter distance than we have for the earlier years. The very last catalogue is an exemption to this: it was published in 2000, which is some eight years after the production of the model ended. Contrary to the earlier catalogues, consisting of 2 fiches each, that very last one has 3 fiches. This suggests that that one was meant to serve as a concluding end point.
After the title page this RTC9887FAE set of microfiches has a five-page introduction; Click to see it here. Topics in this introduction are "Identification data", "Symbols and abbreviations" and "Ordering trimmed parts". They are copied here-below:

The list of chapter names and numbers (below) is very coarse.
But the fiches contain a much more detailed list of topics; see it here:
List of topics, alphabetical:
11 pages
These topics refer to the first two characters of the chapter numbers (1C - 2J)
in the following list.
Note that one drawing page possibly has multiple pages with parts listing.
E.g. drawing page 1G02L
has parts lists pages 1G02R plus 1G03R plus 1G04R.
These three parts lists pages are chained together
via next/previous page clickpoints.
So drawing page 1G02L is followed by drawing page 1G05L, because drawings
1G03L and 1G04L were copies of 1G02L and therefore they were eliminated.
