1968 prices and options: list price:
June: £ 4424.9.5
November: £ 4520.16.5

This was the very first price list, issued in June 1968 when the Limousine was introduced on the market. Its design was still according to a long-established tradition of price lists for the full range of Daimler models, but not including the Jaguars.

Note that the optional extras for the limousine are mentioned, but not listed.

A similar "Price List of All Models" exists, dated August 1968. It even has the same colours (paper and print) as this June 1968 specimen. But it only lists the V8-250 Saloon and the Sovereign Saloon. This is because in August the limousine got a price list of its own, which is shown below.

Press release

Well, actually the above one was not the very first price list for the DS420. That honour goes to the leaflet shown here.
This was part of the press release for the introduction of the car in June 1968.

Now some sales executive decided that the limo ought to have a price list of its own, so the next version started a seven year tradition of price lists exclusively for the limousine model. The reason for this decision probably was to be able to promote the list of options in full detail. The prices are still the same as on the preceding "All models" version. This new list is printed in B&W; it does not have a publication number and is undated.
According to Brian Long's book Daimler and Lanchester (pg. 293) this price list dates from August 1968.

Note the fact that wing mirrors are listed as optional. In those days it was common practice in the car trade that mirrors were fitted by the dealer. Front seat belts are also shown as optional, although the press release with the introduction in June (pg. 3) lists them as standard.

November 1968 brought the first price increase, caused by an increase in purchase tax. The basic price of the car did not change. Daimler sent the following note to its dealers:

   Tax increase
