  39. B post, right, bottom; carpet removed. Lower corner of rear right door, with hinge.
  40. Lower part of B post, right, with ventilation grid on carpet. Note the two hot air hoses visible through the grid. They come from the heater exchange unit under the seat of the passenger in front.
  41. B post, right, top of division wall, under division window. This strip of vinyl upholstery is glued on.
  42. B post, right. After the removal of the glued-on upholstery (see previous photo). The thin foam layer was under the vinyl upholstery.
  43. B post, right, bottom corner (passenger side). Heater grid removed from carpet, carpet pulled loose. Thin foam as mentioned in previous photo still visible.
  44. Rear door (right) sill, carpet covering the sill (glued on) still in place. Carpet from floor removed. Vanden Plas threadplate on sill partially visible.
  45. Lower front corner of right rear door, blue carpet still on door sill. Front part of mounting frame for occasional seat.
  46. Front part of carpet glued on the sill of the rear right door. Front part of mounting frame of occasional seat.
  47. Door post of rear left door, with hinge. left side of division wall visible. Gray vinyl still glued on. Note the carton with the two round holes. Holes are for the heater hoses that end behind the small rectangular chrome heater grille (removed). Heater hoses come from the heater exchange unit under the front passenger seat, which is just in front of the division wall visible here (RHD car setup).
  48. Passenger cabin floor. Extending to the right is the transmission tunnel with carpet still on. From bottom to top (with carpet on) is the cross beam in the floor, where the front of the rear bench rests on (bench is removed). Black material on the left is sound deadening rubber on the floor under the rear bench. The two detached grab handles from the division wall are just put there.
  49. Rear cabin, transmission tunnel with carpet.
  50. Bottom left corner of rear window. Left side of parcel shelf, with speaker cover. Rear bench removed. Above the word 'reserved' is the "hook" that fixes the rear part of the bench (one of two such hooks).
  51. Lower right corner of rear window. Right part of parcel shelf, with speaker cover. Above the word reserved is the hook (one of two) that fixes the rear part of the bench (bench removed).
  52. Upper left corner of rear window. Window surround upholstery clipped loose. This window surround is very vulnerable! Wooden part is the top corner of the rear side window on the left side.
  53. Wooden surround of rear top corner of rear side window (right side of car). Right rear top corner of ceiling. Triangular upholstery between rear side window and rear window partially unclipped. Note how the fastener screw of the vertical wooden strip is accessible by pushing the gray trimming material aside (the cardboard under the gray material has a recess there).
  54. Top of C-post, right side of car. Lamp in ceiling is not original, although not very different from original.
  55. Top of B-post, right side of car, passenger compartment. The vertical piece of wood can be detached with a screw hidden under the soft inlay material of the (vertical) rail of the division window. After 1972, the large horizontal panel above the division window was eliminated and the window extended to the ceiling.
  56. Lamp taken off the upholstery above the division window, driver compartment. This lamp is original. These lamp covers often have melting spots when a bulb with too many watts was inserted. This one is fine, although slightly cracked.
  57. Above a door. Note the round holes where the fastener clip of the trimming material goes in. If these clips are inserted properly (rare...) they can be loosened by pushing a small flat ruler from underneath between the trimming material and the metal.
  58. Rear corner of right side of ceiling in driver compartment. Door partially opened. Trimming material partially unclipped. The bare metal on the right side of the photo is the strip above the division window, with its upholstery removed.
  59. Right side of ceiling above driver. Lower left corner of photo is upper right corner of front windscreen.
  60. Top of left door, driver compartment, and the ceiling above it. Left of photo is top corner of division wall.

  85. Left front door, open; upholstery in place.
  86. Steering wheel and part of dashboard seen through steering wheel. Note the 'P R N D2 D1 L' gear indication; this is for a Borg Warner 8 gearbox.
  87. Middle part of dashboard with 4 gauges and switches. The small rectangular switch to the right of the ashtray is for the electric division. The switch+lamp to the left of the ashtray is for the rear window heating.
  88. Cubby box in dashboard.
  89. Front part of left front door. Door closed. Door handles visible, triangular ventilation window with fittings visible.
  90. Ceiling of driver's compartment, with sagging upholstery. Upholstery above division window, with lamp, still in place. Sun visors visible.
  91. Left side of passenger compartment, with both side windows and handles visible. On the C-post: mounting of dowager strap handle visible, strap itself missing.
  92. Passenger compartment: rear window and top edge of bench. All upholstery in place.
  93. Passenger compartment, left side. front edge of rear door (door closed) and left side of division window (window closed). Note that this is an electric division window. The manual division windows were in two pieces that slide over each other. An electric division window is very rare on such an early model.
  94. Right occasional seat, folded out. Foot rest under that seat is visible. Foot rests were an optional feature.
  95. Vanden Plas thread plate on sill of right rear door. Mounting of right occasional seat partially visible.
  96. Right side of car seen from outside. Both doors open.
  97. Inside of rear right door, door open. All upholstery and handles in place.
  98. Rear side window, right side, seen from outside, looking into the car.
  99. Right front and rear doors, closed, seen from outside. Note the double chrome waistline strip. The lower (wider) strip is only present on cars older than summer 1971.
  100. Bonnet open, seen from front right side.
  101. Bonnet open, seen from the front. Engine in place. The D-emblems on the round grilles under the headlights are missing.
  102. Close up view into the engine bay, seen from front. Engine complete and in place. Three details look unfamiliar to me: (1) the hoses with marking on/off on the right side of the photo. Could that be a non-standard heater valve? (2) the ignition lead cables pass through two rubber disks with holes, and on top of the engine they pass through a circular metal thing. Rubber disks and metal item are unknown to me. (3) the fuse box in the upper right corner of the photo is unfamiliar.
  103. Front windscreen, seen from outside. Screen wipers visible including their mountings. Chrome strip around front window in place.
  104. Rear of car with boot lid, license plate, rear lights, rear bumper with chrome overriders. Boot lid slightly opened.
  105. View into the left side of the boot. Fuel tank in place but rubber hose between filler well and tank removed.
  106. View into the right side of the boot, upper part. Top of spare tire, with mounting, visible. To the left of the mounting is the scissor jack. The small chrome handle on the far right is the mounting for the toolbox (toolbox itself is missing).
  107. Door handle and ??
  108. In the engine bay, taking off the carburettors. The rubber disks on the ignition leads are unfamiliar.
  109. Throttle valve from carburettor.
  110. Throttle valve from carburettor.
  111. Grease and dirt inside the carburettor chambre.
  112. Jet holder of carburettor.
  113. Float chambre and jet chamber of carburettor.
  114. Top view of right fuel tank in boot, with filler neck hose and (yellow plastic) breather hose.
  115. Fuel tank sensor. Black wire is earth, green/blue wire goes to dashboard switch (continuing from there to fuel gauge on dashboard). Green/blue colour means: right side (left side would be green/yellow).
  116. Engine bay: taking apart a carburettor.
  117. New upholstery trimming material.
  118. Driver's compartment looking down on floor. Bench and upholstery removed. Heater exchange unit (for passenger compartment) full in sight. Note that each side of the passenger compartment is served by two air hoses.
  119. Driver's compartment looking down to the floor under the steering wheel. The flexible hose pointing upward gives a wrong impression; it should go from the heater exchange unit to the passenger compartment, right side.
  120. Front door right, inner side, two handles and the upholstery removed.
  121. Left side rear corner of passenger compartment, bench, upholstery and floor covers removed. Laying on the floor is the wood inlay from the left arm rest.
  122. Passenger compartment looking towards lower part of division. Electric division window mechanism partially visible. Carpets and upholstery removed. The white flowers were on the parcel shelf when the car arrived in the workshop.
  123. Inside of right door, upholstery removed.
  124. Looking into the boot, from right to left, to left fuel tank. The flat iron "bar" is supposed to be mounted vertically in front of the square black patch on the fuel tank.
  125. Looking into boot, right side, from back to front. Fuel tank and scissor jack visible above the word "reserved".
  126. Sample of new(?) vinyl upholstery material (for door caps etc)?
  127. Front door (right side) removed. Triangular water bin visible just above the centre of the photo. The loose grid in that bin is not a good sign; it can easily clog the drain hole (which is in the dark corner in the far centre) and that is difficult to clean out.
  128. Front right door removed, looking at the door post.
  129. Right side looking back from the B-post through the door opening (hand is on C-post) Lamp (not original model) hanging loose from ceiling.
  130. Top of door opening (right rear), upholstery strip removed. Lamp hanging from ceiling. Ceiling sound deadening material hanging loose.
  131. Top side of door opening, upholstery trim material removed, showing rust.
  132. Top side of door opening. Upholstery removed, chrome roof trim removed. Showing heavy rust.
  133. Top of door opening (left rear), looking inward to parcel shelf. Sound deadening material from ceiling hanging loose.
  134. Looking from rear into boot. Isolation and side covers removed. Fuel tank removed. The two large square holes in the raised part of the bottom are not standard. Probably made for easier access to the rear brakes?
  135. Side view from front to rear, right side of car. Doors removed. Rear side windows removed. Bonnet and wing mirrors removed.
  136. Side view from front to rear, left side. Doors and bonnet removed, headlights, grille and front bumper removed. Note the small plate with the "Vanden Plas job number" on the underframe in the bottom of the grille opening, right above the 't A' of the word 'Copyright'.
  137. Close up view into the engine bay, from front to rear. Battery removed. Ignition coil loose and dislocated on top of engine cam cover.
  138. View into engine bay from front to right rear, bonnet removed, Air duct between filter and carbs removed.
  139. Mounting bracket of rear bumper (right side) removed, showing heavy rust. Chrome side strips removed, showing the rivet head where the lower (wider) chrome strip was clipped upon. This large headed rivet is probably very difficult to find. The ones for the smaller chrome strip are much easier (e.g. from SNG Barrett).
  140. Side mounting rubber damper of rear bumper removed. The two different rivet heads for the two different chrome strips are clearly visible.
  141. Detailed view of rear right corner of the car, under the tail light. Bumper mounting bracket removed. The round hole is unfamiliar.
  142. Mounting place of rear bumper, left side of the car. Bumper removed including the rubber damper.
  143. Location of left fuel tank, tank removed. The two hoses are water drains, one from the fuel filler well, and one for the collector bin between the hinges of the boot lid, collecting the water that comes down the rear window. These hoses go through a hole in the bottom. The hole for the rightmost hose seems intact, the leftmost hose seems to have crept upward, left its hole (hole partially visible to the left of the hoses' end), and now drains onto the floor. Common problem causing heavy rust! At the bottom of the photo, above the word 'Avala' is the large hole where the drain plug of the fuel tank hangs through.
  144. (probably) top of right rear wheel well, seen from above in the boot. The yellow plastic is the breather hose of the fuel tank (dislocated). The black hose is the drain for the collector bin between the boot lid hinges.
  145. Bottom of location of right fuel tank (tank removed). One water drain hose still in place, other drain hose absent, but its hole through the floor still visible. The large rubber ring surrounds the drain plus of the tank, when in situ.
  146. Top of left rear wheel well, seen inside the boot, looking forward. In the upper right quadrant of the photo the small rubber shock absorber block plus nut to mount the fuel pump is visible (just in front of the cable that bows downward). Slightly more to the left the other rubber mounting block seems to be broken in half. The yellow hose (left) is a water drain.
  147. Mounting place of door hinge; hinge (and door) removed.
  148. Front exhaust damper. The ribbed part to the right is the flexible bend coming down from the engine and bending towards the rear of the car (the bend itself is just outside the photo). There should be two of these next to each other; one removed already.
  149. Under the car: exhaust pipes coming down from the engine bay and extending to the left.
  150. Uncertain: under the alternator in the engine bay?
  151. Right side of engine block, carburettors removed, looking down on steering column.
  152. Looking down on right side (rear) of engine block and gearbox. Glass fuel filter (mounted against the fire wall) visible.
  153. Looking down in engine bay, engine removed, gearbox in place.
  154. Looking down in engine bay, from front to rear. Engine removed. Steering column (left) clearly visible (from 'C' of 'Copyright' going upward. Gearbox mounting hanging down and gearbox oil dip stick clearly visible. Also clearly visible: the two hot water hoses passing through the firewall, one above the other (on the photo right above the '04/26' text) to go to the heat exchanger under the front seat in the driver's compartment.
  155. Looking down into engine bay onto the right wheel well. Engine removed. Steering column and steering box visible. To the left (to the right of the yellow tape) is the pressure sensor for the brake light in the T-junction where the hydraulics for front brakes and rear brakes split up. Above that is the flat connector with the electric cabling (5 wires) coming from the dashboard.
  156. Looking from above into the engine bay; engine removed and battery tray removed. To the left, various heater hoses are visible. To the right: TR4 unit (small square black box) that controls the charging of the battery (shortly later this became integrated in the alternator), a starter inhibitor (round) and the relay for the horns.
  157. Engine taken out. Steering pump and ignition leads still attached.
  158. Engine taken out. seen from exhaust side. One of the small lamps from the front of the car laying on the ground, including its mounting base.
  159. Engine taken out, seen from inlet side. At the bottom of the photo (above the words 'all rights' is the oil pump assembly, with the oil feed coming in from the sump, the oil filter case hanging down, and on top the mushroom shaped oil pressure sensor, with its electric contact (for the dashboard gauge) on top.
  160. Engine taken out, seen from the outlet and flywheel side. Oil dip stick visible.
  161. Detailed view of throttle control from carburettor (uncertain).
  162. Detailed view of throttle control from carburettor (uncertain). Steering column visible in lower left quadrant of photo.
  163. Looking from engine bay onto lower part of firewall. Gearbox removed but gearbox mounting hanging from above still present. Two heater hoses entering the driver's compartment clearly visible. Binocular box from exhaust visible. Glass fuel filter visible.
  164. Detailed view of main brake cylinder.
  165. Part of throttle control mechanism. Glass fuel filter visible.

  173. Removing paint from outside of two doors.
  174. Removing paint from bonnet.
  175. Removing paint from bonnet.
  176. Looking through right front door to the dashboard, but all dashboard gear has been removed and thus the firewall is in full view. Floor partially visible, handbrake lever visible, mounting frame for bench seat visible.
  177. Rear of center part of the dashboard, with the four gauges, the switches and all the wiring. The two fuse boxes visible as well. To the right is the gear indicator cover from behind the steering wheel.
  178. Wiring loom. In the centre of the photo is the (black metal) mounting frame from one of the arm rests in the passenger compartment.
  179. View into the top part of the engine bay, from front to rear. The rusty surface in the centre is where the heater unit was taken out. The two square "funnel like" holes going down bring the hot air into the driver's compartment (ending under the dashboard). The ventilation flap in front of the window has been removed. Cold air enters there and is guided into the heater unit via the vertical open slit. Barely visible is a recess in the center of the rusty patch to collect the rain water that entered via the ventilation flap and has trickled down through the heater unit. From that recess, the water goes to the round hole visible above the gear box opening, and from there down onto the street. The rain water has caused all that rust; the bottom of the heater unit will be equally rusty.
  180. Heater unit in engine bay removed. This is the rust that was underneath it, so the heater unit stood on top of this. Rain water entered the ventilation flap in front of the windscreen, and trickled through the heater unit, leaving via a hole in the bottom of the unit. Visible on the photo is a recess where the water was collected. It then leaves via the hole (lower right, behind the '2011/' text) and drips down to the road.
  181. Detached heater unit from engine bay. When in situ, the slit is positioned against the firewall.
  182. Looking through right rear door, forward against division wall and through to firewall where the dashboard was.
  183. Looking down into the engine bay to the place where the heater unit (now taken out) was seated. To the left is the firewall, to the right the view is downward into the engine bay (engine removed).
  184. Top edge of B-post, left side, seen from the driver's location.
  185. Top edge of roof and left side of rear window.
  186. B-post, left side, where the division window touches (window taken out).

  319. Taking out the right rear side window. Detached window frame of left front door visible in background.
  320. Part of bottom stop (detached, partially) of window winding mechanism.
  321. Mounting hole for small lamp in front of car, right side.
  322. Round ventilation window under right headlight. Still in place. D-emblem missing.
  323. Small lamp in left front wing. Not yet detached.
  324. Left mounting bracket of front bumper. Bumper taken off.
  325. Right mounting bracket of front bumper. Bumper taken off.
  326. Boot handle and number plate still in place, dust covered.
  327. Looking into the boot, upper left corner. Fuel filler neck visible. Left hinge of boot lid visible. Note the transparent braided hose (left side of photo) for the drain of the fuel filler well. Note the black hose for the drain of the collector bin that handles the rain water coming down the rear window (from right to bottom of photo; under the 'ri' of the word 'Copyright')
  328. Boot lid handle removed, but lock still in place. To detach the lock cylinder, look for the tiny needle-shaped wedge that passes from left to right through cylinder and surrounding holder. That "needle wedge" must be pushed out.
  329. Catch plate i(one of two) for the locking latch of the boot lid. Note the small rubber distance holder in the lower right corner of the photo. If there are worn the boot lid gets a tendency to jump open while driving.
  330. Close-up of fuel line, coming from fuel pump on top of wheel well (left) going to the T-junction where it joins with the line coming from the other pump. This junction is approx. one meter to the right of this photo, still in the boot. The "leg" of the T then goes under the car to the fuel filter mounted on the firewall in the engine bay. If your car still has stretches of that original semi-transparent plastic fuel line (visible on the left side) they urgently need replacement! That plastic has become brittle and thus unreliable and dangerous.
  331. Piece of fuel line in the boot.
  332. Fuel line coming from the pump on the wheel well (to the right) and going along the back of the passenger seat to the T-junction where it meets with the line from the other pump. That junction is close to the left side of the photo.
  333. Fuel "suction" line between the pump (on top of the wheel well to the left) and the tank. The "banjo bolt" near the bottom of the photo mounts on the front side of the tank; tank is now dismounted. Also visible is the black drain hose coming from the filler well (above the top middle of the photo) and running down to a hole in the floor. The black rubber hose that drains the collector bin in between the hinges of the boot lid is missing in this photo. The stub of yellow hose is the breather pipe that mounts on the top of the fuel tank.
  334. Fuel lines in the boot, mounted against the back of the passenger bench. The fuel pumps are outside the photo, left and right. On the right side is the T-junction where both lines join. The "leg" of the T (pointing down under the rubber grommet, not visible) runs under the car's floor to the glass fuel filter mounted against the firewall in the engine bay.
  335. Right hinge of the boot lid. In the bottom left corner, just above the '20' is the rubber shock damper of the fuel pump (pump dismounted). Straight above that is the bottom of a speaker in the parcel shelf. In the top centre of this photo is the collector bin for the rain water that comes down the rear window. The top edge of the boot lid drops in a "channel" with perforated slits above this collector bin. At the far end of the bin is the "stub" to connect the drain hose that leads the water down below the bottom of the car (hose itself is missing). The two metal rods (coming down diagonally from the top left corner of the photo) are part of the spring mechanism of the boot lid. There is no actual spring; tension on those rods serves as the "spring" force.
  336. Top side of radiator. The metal flap held by the mechanic closes the opening above the actual radiator, so air cannot bypass the radiator. The flat metal strip on the top (visible in front of the windscreen) with its five clips holds the top of the grille (grille dismounted).
  337. Expansion tank for the coolant, mounted against the left side wall of the engine bay. Diagonally above the filler opening is the battery tray (rusted). The braided electric "wire" is the connection between the negative battery pole and the body (note the battery clamp hanging loose there), Battery itself is dismounted.
  338. Reservoir for the screen washer fluid. It is supposed to be mounted on the bottom flap of the L-shaped construction just behind it, but the flat holding "rope" seems to be disintegrated. The plastic piece marked 'Lucas' on top of the reservoir is the pump. The space we are looking at is in between the left front wheel well and the left two headlights.
  339. We are looking from the place where the radiator is (now dismounted) into the space behind the left headlights. The back of the small headlight is visible. Approximately half way the left edge of the photo is the foot of the L-shaped holder where the washer fluid reservoir is supposed to be. The flat metal piece is supposed to cover the gap between the left side of the radiator and the body.
  340. Under side of the ignition coil, mounted against the front right wheel well in the engine bay. Below it is the pressure sensor for the brake lights (electric connection just above the word 'rights'. Incoming brake fluid line is hidden, but two outgoing brake fluid lines are clearly visible. In the bottom right corner of the photo is the filler cap of the steering pump. The electric wire coming in behind the copyright symbol (lower left corner) brings the various wires from the dashboard to the large flat connector where they split out (oil pressure sensor, starter motor solenoid, water temperature sensor, ... (two more)).
  341. Minus pole connection "wire" for the battery. This is on top of the left front wheel well. The battery tray is visible under the hand of the mechanic.
  342. Battery tray. Curled up under the tray is the drain hose for the water collector bin which is above the hinges of the front door. Note how the hose bends downward into a very hard to reach space between the wheel well and the front door, just above the front jacking point. The water hose is supposed to exit via a hole in the bottom of the car, but the end of the hose disintegrates and creeps upward. So the water ends up in that area, which rusts away, taking the jacking point with it. This is a structurally weak point in the design of the car. Note that this problem is both left and right.
  343. Ignition coil, but judging from earlier photos this is not the one "in service" Earlier photos showed another coil just above the pressure sensor for the brake light, which is visible in the upper right corner of the photo. Obviously, the car only needs one coil, so this one was probably left in place after it had failed. On the left side of the photo is the space between the left front wheel well and the left headlights. The hand of the mechanic is entering through the place where the radiator was (now dismounted).
  344. Fuel filter mounted on the firewall (right side of the engine). The mechanic holds the outgoing line, going to the carburettors (just visible at the bottom of the photo). The incoming line is on the other side of the filter head. The incoming line is routed under the bottom of the car, coming from the boot where the fuel pumps are.
  345. Glass fuel filter, with the line to the carburettors disconnected. At the bottom of the photo is the main brake cylinder. At the top of the photo is the (white plastic) bottom edge of the brake fluid reservoir with the incoming and outgoing brake fluid hoses. Note that the gearbox and the engine are still in place.
  346. Mounting bracket of the battery tray (battery and tray itself removed). This is on top of the front left wheel well. Note the curled water drain hose that we discussed extensively a few photos earlier (important to read!). To the right of the photo is the small electric socket to connect e.g. an inspection lamp Lucas sells a fitting male connector, google for "Lucas 2-pin plug". It is quite expensive! In the top right corner of the photo is the wiper motor partially visible.

  352. Mounting bracket for the gearbox in the middle of the firewall (gearbox is hanging below it).
  353. Oil dipstick of the gearbox, just in front of the firewall. Against the right edge of the photo is the non-standard heater valve.
  354. Lower end of steering column.
  355. Upper end of steering column, passing through the firewall.
  356. Mounting bracket for the screen wash fluid container. In front of the front left wheel well.
  357. Mounting frame (right half) for the occasional seat, The top edge of the picture is the sill of the right rear door.
  358. Mounting frame (left half) for the occasional seat. The top edge of the picture is the transmission tunnel in the center of the floor.

  361. Mounting frame for the occasional seat. The top of the picture is the door sill.
  362. Floor under the right occasional seat. The top of the picture is the transmission tunnel.
  363. Floor under the the occasional seat.
  364. Front left corner of the holding space for the left fuel tank. The hose is the water drain from the filler well. It ends under the car. Note how these hoses deteriorate at the end. This brings water on the floor under the tank, which is always very rusty. The hole without hose is for the drain from the collector bin in between the hinges of the boot lid (for water coming down from the rear window).
  365. Fuel filler neck for the left tank. The top of the picture is the well under the body flap. Note the water drain hose for that well.
  366. Front right corner of the holding space for the right fuel tank. Note the drain hose leaving through a hole in the floor. Also note the empty hole in the floor (to the left of the low end of the hose) for the other drain hose (collector bin in between the hinges of the boot).
  367. This is the holding space of the right fuel tank, rear end, just in fromt of the rear light. We see the breather hose of the tank leaving through a hole in the floor.
  368. The firewall, where the heater unit was. The heater unit was standing on the rusty patch. At the center of the bottom edge of the picture was the gearbox. The opening near the top center is under the ventilation flap in front of the windscreen. The rust was cause by rain water entering via that flap and trickling down through the heater unit. The bottom of the heater unit will be equally rusty as this body area. The openings left and right (just under the blue body part) feed hot air from the heater unit to the two demisting slits above the dashboard.
  369. This is where the heater unit was, just in front of the firewall.
  370. This is the slit under the ventilation flap between bonnet and windscreen. The windscreen itself is visible at the top of this picture. Fresh air passes through this into the heater unit which is fitted under this slit. The lever to open/close the ventilation flap passes through the black pipe in the center of the slit. It is operated with a vacuum unit located behind the centre part of the dashboard.
  371. ??
  372. This opening is under the heater unit in the engine bay, in front of the firewall (firewall is visible against the upper edge of this photo). The opening brings hot air from the heater unit into the driver's compartment. Looking down in the opening we see the floor of the driver's compartment, just next to the pedals.
  373. Place where the heater unit was, in front of the firewall in the engine bay. Firewall is to the left. The opening brings hot air under the dashboard near the knees of the passenger in the driver's compartment.
  374. Mounting unit for the holder of the gearbox (which was hanging below this ring). The rusty patch is where the heater unit was, in front of the firewall. The pipe coming out on the right is for the rain water that trickled through the ventilation flap in front of the windscreen, then through the heater unit, then in the recess which is barely visible near the left top edge of the photo (almost camouflaged by the rust).
  375. Left rear corner of the engine bay. On the opposite side this is where the steering column passes along. On this side the battery tray is just above this location.
  376. Looking down almost vertically on one of the horns (and to the floor of the workshop under the horn). The front of the car is to the right. Above the top of the photo is the left wing of the car. The round hole to the right (with the circular shape around it) is the mounting point for the lower left corner of the radiator. The round hole near the upper edge of the photo has no particular purpose; it stays open.
  377. Looking down vertically; the front of the car is to the left. The lower part of the photo shows the floor of the workshop. The lower right corner of the radiator would be in the opening in the lower left corner of the photo. The blue frame bar goes upward (vertically) and would be in parallel with the right edge of the radiator. The two rods in the lower part of the photo are for stabiliser and steering.

  400. Top of the firewall, seen from the driver's compartment. The top of the photo is the front windscreen. The mechanism with the two horizontal rods drives (one of) the screen wipers.
  401. Top of firewall seen from driver's compartment. The top of the photo is the front windscreen. The mechanism just above the center of the photo is the mounting base of the right screen wiper. The horizontal rod coming in from the left is connected to the other wiper's base (outside the photo), and even further is the wiper motor. The mounting bracket in the bottom centre of the photo holds the dashboard; this is the dividing line between the right part of the dashboard and the center part. The oval hole to the right receives hot air from the heater unit (on the other side of the firewall). a funnel-shaped duct is screwed onto that opening which ends in the demisting slits on top of the dashboard.

  404. Left front part of engine bay, looking behind the left headlights. The mounting bracket above the word 'reser' is for the two horns (one at the top, one at the bottom). On the beam that starts in the lower right corner of the photo it is still visible where the clip was attached to hold the brake line, which passed there from the left side of the car (where the brake cylinder is) to the left side. Hanging loose on the left lower quadrant of the picture is the brake line from the actual front brake. The central part of the lower half of the photo is the front axle (although the car does not have a "real" front axle).

  407. Upper left corner of the firewall, seen from the engine bay. The cable passing through is for all the electric tools in the left side of the engine bay: horns, left headlights, screen washer pump, etc.
  408. Parcel shelf seen from the passenger side. The speakers in the shelf are dismounted. The upper half of the picture is the rear window. The ventilation slit just below the window (actually there are three of these slits next to each other) is for air passing between passenger compartment and boot.
  409. Right side of parcel shelf, and right D-post of the body.
  410. Rear right corner of the passenger compartment, with corner of the ceiling and right C- and D-posts of the body. The ceiling at the right shows that the upholstery was glued against the metal. The ceiling to the left has its upholstery glued on a wooden foundation plate which is then attached to the ceiling by screws and clips. The reinforcment beam in the ceiling (to the left of the centre of the upper half of the picture, starting from the C-post) is where most landaulette conversions stop. Taking that beam away requires compensating reinforcements via the sides and the floor of the body. But leaving it in place means that passengers cannot stand upright through the open roof, since that beam is just above the front edge of the passenger bench.
  411. The frame of the rear side window, left side of the car. With C-post.
  412. Looking from the rear right wheel well towards the rear of the car. The large round hole is for the drain of the right fuel tank (tank dismounted),
  413. Looking upward from one of the rear wheel wells. The square hole in the centre shouldn't be there. It is at the bottom of the "pillar" between the wheel well and the end of the parcel shelf, just in front of the filler flap well. The inside of the pillar is visible through the hole.
  414. Inside one of the wheel wells.
  415. In the right rear wheel well, looking towards the front of the car. It is clearly visible how the cover on the end of the sill has suffered from rust. The end of the sill is by far the weakest spot in the construction of the car. There should have been a jacking point there, but that obviously has disappeared with an earlier "restoration". This is a very common situation.
  416. Looking upward under the left side of the car. The upper left quadrant of the photo is the left rear wheel well. The 'bulb' with the bracket underneath holds the rear end of the flat "arm" coming from the rear axle cage. The "reddish" part in the lower left quadrant of the picture is where the rear axle "cage" was located (now dismounted).
  417. Under the bottom of the left fuel tank, behind the rear wheel well (which is on the left side of the photo). The 'bulb' with the bracket holds the flat arm coming from the rear axle cage (arm now dismounted).

  472. Electric motor for a fan in the heater unit.
  473. Heater unit taken from the engine bay. This side sits against the firewall. The large opening at the top receives the fresh air from the ventilation flap in front of the windscreen. It also receives the rain water through that same flap, which causes the rust.
  474. Bottom side of the heater unit taken from the engine bay. The slit serves to let the rainwater out. In the top of the photo are the two sliders that are connected to the sliders on the lower central part of the dashboard.
  475. Bottom of the heater unit taken from the engine bay. Rainwater that came in via the ventilation flap in front of the windscreen (and then the top of this heater unit) is supposed to leave via the slit visible here in the bottom, and come in a reception bin below it (visible on many other pictures in this collection). The rainwater always make this area very rusty.
  476. Heat exchange matrix inside the heater unit. Feeding pipes are shown to the left. Upper pipe is water in, lower pipe is water out.
  477. Heater unit taken from the engine bay. Heater matrix removed. Fresh air comes in from the top via the ventilation flap in front of the windscreen. The handles on the lower part of the dashboard are connnected to the small vertical flaps that are visible left and right of the grid (metal flap with a 90 deg. bend.). They either guide the fresh air through the grid and thus through the heater matrix in front of it, or open a bypass channel on each side. The air leaves the unit via the sides where the electric motors are.
