The chassis number ("1M2062" in this example) stamped on the horizontal valence above the radiator, near the place where the bonnet latch drops in. The nose of the car is on the right; the top of the grille is visible. This location was used until April/May 1978. The number always started with 1M, followed by 4 digits (starting at 1001) for RHD cars, and 5 digits (starting with 20001) for LHD. Behind that number there were slight variations over time, e.g. BW was sometimes attached to indicate Borg Warner transmission, or H to indicate Hearse chassis.
