Muslim Gedygushev: limousine in Moscow

Hotel Savoia Milano Muslim Gedygushev in Moscow is a collector of cars from the 1970-1990 period. He has mainly British cars - Jaguars, several Bentleys - but also Mercedes, Tatra and Volga. One of his Jaguars was imported in 1979, and for a long time has been the only Jaguar with a USSR registration. Because Muslim spent many years in The Netherlands, he and I are able to communicate in Dutch, my (hjt) native language.

His DS420 is a very early model: built in May 1970. It is a left-hand driven car. Its VIN number 1M20018 shows that it was the 18th LHD car from the production. It was sold in November 1970 via the dealership of Fattori & Montari in Roma, Italy to a company named SRL ITC. Later it ended up in Milano. It was then owned by Principe Domenico Pallavicino, as the document in the forelast photo below shows. He was a consul for Monaco in Italy, and a distant relative of Monaco's ruling Grimaldy dynasty. After his ownership, the car went to a collector in Naples, Italy. Muslim Gedygushev bought it there in 2019 and had it transported to Moscow.

In April 2014 I (hjt) visited a classic car show where I bought a loose page from a magazine, showing a DS420 in an advert for a very high class hotel in Milano. I added this to my "Contemporary photographs" page. A few years later I learned that the DS420 on that photo actually is this very car. The Milanese registration number 03825S-MI is shown both on the photo and on the registration document (forelast photo in the gallery below), and it was still on the car when Muslim bought it. I even learned that the plate at the front of the car has the 'MI' for Milano behind the number, and at the rear of the car it is MI-03825S.

The last photo in the gallery was taken in 1981 on a street in Moscow. In those communist days a DS420 was of course a very rare sight. This is not Muslim's car; the license plate traces it back to a diplomatic mission from Switzerland.
