This is the slit under the ventilation flap between bonnet and windscreen. The windscreen itself is visible at the top of this picture. Fresh air passes through this into the heater unit which is fitted under this slit. The lever to open/close the ventilation flap passes through the black pipe in the centre of the slit. It is operated with a vacuum unit located behind the centre part of the dashboard.
