Bill Eltringham - Limousine

Bill Eltringham, from Newcastle upon Tyne, UK was a regular visitor of the International Rallies of the DLOC. His limousine 'GIL3965' invariably won prizes because of its perfect condition. It is a 1969 car (chassis 1M1186, production date July 7, 1969), with the rare dual chrome waistline striping.

Bill liked to mention that this car was initially bought by a titled lady from London who kept it for the first 50,000 miles. It was then owned by two wedding service companies before coming into his ownership.

This gallery shows a collection of photos taken at various International Rallies of the Daimler and Lanchester Owners' Club: Ross on Wye in Wales. June 14th, 2009 (photos 1 and 2), Sandringham, June 11th, 2011 (photo 3), Anstruther Harbour, Scotland, June 14, 2015 (photos 4-14), Peebles, Scotland, June 9th, 2019 (photos 15-21), and an unknown location (photo 22).

Since this car has the rare factory installed airco unit, we have a few photos of that unit as well (photos 23-26).

Photos contributed in 2009, 2011, 2015, 2019. Bill passed away in January 2022. Illustrations 35 and 36 are the obituary that his daughter Stacey wrote for The Driving Member, magazine of the Daimler and Lanchester Owners' Club.

The obituary mentions that the celebration of the DS420s 50th anniversary, organised by Bill, was one of his proudest achievements. Bill wrote an article about this event for The Driving Member magazine. See it here.

Photos 27-34 are from that event. Bill's car is shown next to the last DS420 owned by the Queen Mother, now in the collection of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust.

Finally, photo 37 shows the car at its new home in the French Pyrenees, photographed in early 2024.
