Few people enjoy sitting in the back seat of a car, but there are some models where it is definitely worth it. This is especially true when it means you can secure a seat next to a celebrity. Take this Daimler DS420, for example.
You simply have to get into this car! And definitely not in any seat other than the back seat. If you do, you can sit in the very spot where Princess Diana and Prince Charles, now King Charles III, once sat. But the Duchess of York, whose real name is Sarah Ferguson, the Duke of York and even Queen Elizabeth II herself have also travelled on this sofa. Unfortunately, the opportunity to temporarily take the seats of the celebrities was only available at the Concours d'Elegance in Balatonfüred, where owner Christian Vanik presented his rare Daimler DS420 with pedigree. Or, in other words, the Daimler limousine that he himself bought in 2012 because he was fascinated by the car's past. "Every time I open the rear door, I feel touched by the breath of history. It gives me goose bumps. That's still the case today, even though I've owned the car for more than ten years," he said as he opened the rear door.
This may sound like the exaggeration of a proud owner, but the fact is that the connection between the Daimler car brand and the British royal family dates back to the dawn of the automotive age. More precisely, to the turn of the 19th century, because as early as 1902, King Edward VII, Queen Victoria's successor, drove a Daimler. After that, his successor, George V, who lived through the First World War, did the same, as did Edward VIII, who reigned for six months and then abdicated the throne because of a wife of lower rank, and Edward VII and the father of Elizabeth II, King George VI, who reigned during the Second World War and originally stuttered (see the film "The King's Speech").
