Here we move to the left side of the car again: looking from the rear wheel arch to the tail. Above the cut-out part, near the end, the mounting bolts for the rear bumper are visible.

The wheel arch has not been replaced yet. But we start with the area behind it: partially cut open, and folded. On the folded out part, we see how during an earlier restoration the panels were welded over each other. Sloppy but cheap.

The vertical panel still visible inside is an original one, but it should have been attached to the wheel arch. Under normal circumstances, the petrol tank is on the other side of that vertical panel. Remember that the DS420 was built on the floor pan of the Jaguar Mark X, but the boot of the car is not part of that. The whole boot is attached to the floor panel as a sort of "balcony". The support for that balcony comes from four of these vertical panels: the one you see here, plus a double-walled panel right on the other side of the petrol tank (between petrol tank and boot interior), and of course a similar construction on the opposite side of the car.
