Ivan Ford: Front Suspension

Ivan Ford from Edinburgh owned this 1987 limo, car 200970, which once belonged to the late Princess Margaret. The car still carries the blue roof light. His limo and mine, 16 years older, made a nice couple at the DLOC Annual Meeting in Beaulieu in 2003.

This series of pictures shows the dismantling of the front suspension. But it also has a warning to be careful with notoriously dangerous parts like springs. The forelast picture shows how the spring is compressed with the tool inserted inside, but the last picture (unfortunately not very well focused) shows what happens if such a tool does not have a proper fit and shifts away unexpectedly. Ivan almost lost his thumb in this accident. It was only saved after a lot of surgery!

This car started its life in the Royal Mews with registration D500GUW. Click here to see Jaguar's press photos.

A few years after these photos were taken this car was sold to Dr. Christian Vanik in Vienna.
