Service Bulletins
From January 1963 to February 1972 Daimler provided the dealers with
"Service Bulletins": loose leaflets to announce technical changes,
issue warnings and provide technical advice in general.
One leaflet typically consisted of one or two pages (sometimes more),
and occasionally a new bulletin was meant to replace an earlier one.
The dealers were supposed to add them to a special ring binder,
the cover of which is shown here (click to enlarge).
The publications started in 1963,
which is 5 years before the introduction of the DS420.
All current Daimler models were covered: 2.5 Litre V8, V8-250, Sovereign,
SP250, Majestic Major saloon (DQ450) and limousine (DR450)
and the DS420 limousine and hearse.
Each of the pages on this website has clickpoints
to step through the entire collection,
but obviously, the DS420 only takes a small share of this.
Therefore the header of each
page has extra click points to step along the DS420-relevant pages only.

The content is divided into 18 chapters.
Clicking on one of the chapter titles gives access to the first/tab page of

Since these service bulletins appeared bundled by month, the dealer had to give years of uninterrupted attention to the job of inserting the new arrivals into the binder. The total amount of paper is far more than a binder is able to hold, and this does not help to keep the collection together either. Therefore, it is almost impossible to find a binder with a complete set of bulletins. Luckily, I was able to locate (and borrow) four of these binders, which together provided an uninterrupted sequence of publications. Highest numbered ones in this collection are: A:23, B:66, C:18, D:19, E:5, F:8, FF:32, G:4, H:11, I:17, II:12, J:12, K:4, L:33, M:12, N:46, O:7, P:84. These numbers have been verified with another collector, and match what he has. Total number of bulletins: 433, of which 22 are "2nd issue" ones superseding an earlier one with identical number.
The following service bulletins had a "2nd issue": B3, B5, B44, B56, C14, C16, D1, F7, FF11, FF27, H8, L33, N30, O4, O7, P5, P41, P61, P63, P67, P70. Note that this list relies on what I found in the collections, but I have no means to know whether this is complete. For historical reasons I have added the 1st issue where available (2nd issue first, followed by the 1st issue). The 1st issue is missing with B56, FF27 and P5.
From March 1972 until June 1979 Jaguar published
"Jaguar Daimler Service Information Bulletins", for Jaguar and Daimler combined.
The organisation was very different from its predecessor publication:
no division in chapters by topic, but sequential "item numbers" instead.
The items were printed one after the other, without synchronizing a new item
on a new page boundary.
In roughly the same time frame the USA branch of British Leyland ran its own version of Service bulletins. Since the DS420 was never marketed in the USA we don't have them on this website.
The collector who made the UK bulletins available for this website has
selected all Daimler related ones, and he also has re-organized the
page boundaries such that each item starts at a new (web-)page.

Surprisingly, each of the Daimler related items turns out to be
relevant for the DS420 model,

The last "Jaguar Daimler Service Information Bulletins" that we are able to show here dates from July 1975, although the publications continued under this name until June 1979.
From June 1979 to December 1994 the name
"Jaguar Daimler Service Bulletins" was used.
Unfortunately, we don't have a binder cover to show with these.
As with the previous set, the collector who made the UK bulletins available for this website
has selected all DS420 related ones from his collection.
The bulletins are listed here in time sequence.
The last one we are able to show dates from December 1983.
Spare Parts Catalogues Bulletins
Bulletins to enhance the Spare Parts Catalogues
were published in parallel with the Service bulletins.
This started with the "Daimler Spares Division Bulletins",
published between January 1964 and July 1968.
Unfortunately, we only have a very limited number of these available:
January 1964 - April 1964.
Since the DS420 was introduced in June 1968, none of these is DS420 relevant.

In parallel with the Daimler Spare Parts bulletins there were "Bulletins for Spare Parts Catalogues" from the Jaguar Spares Division. They had a grey binder with blue imprint. This publication started in mid 1959. From 1963 on the binder got a "Volume 2" successor (the first volume does not carry a "Volume" designation). Since they are 'Jaguar only' they are not related to the Daimler DS420 and thus not on this website.
In November 1968 the 'Jaguar Daimler Car Spares Division' started a revised
parts bulletin publication.
in which Jaguar and Daimler bulletins were combined.
These ran until the end of 1973.
Obviously, the majority of these bulletins is about Jaguar cars.
A collector from the UK was very kind
to go through his very extensive collection,
and provide copies of all Daimler ones. Some are even DS420 specific.
The content is divided into a number of chapters, but chapters without Daimler-relevant publications are not shown. Clicking on one of the chapter titles gives access to the first page of each chapter.
The division into topic-related chapters was not used from the very beginning.
Therefore the oldest bulletins are all under the "General" header,
regardless of their topic.

From January 1974 until December 1994 the Impart bulletins were succeeded
by "Parts Technical Information" bulletins
for Jaguar, Rover and Triumph combined.
The outside of the binder cover carried all these three names, but the
bulletins had their own headings and sequence numbering per brand,
and each brand started with a plastic tab carrying the brand name.
An English collector kindly provided scans of the Daimler-relevant
bulletins from his collection, although he only has them available
from 1974 through January 1979.
